Plumage paper bas-relief

This sculptural paper piece is made from a single sheet of rough watercolour paper. Lauren Collin uses surgical blades to carve the paper. The sculpted relief design is revealed by the ambient light. Each scale of paper takes on a particular colour depending on the light and shadows. The motif that we see emerging from the paper evokes the plumage of a bird, or even a seabed; everyone sees what they want. The artwork reveals a different composition depending on its orientation.
