Paper bas-relief

This white sculptural paper piece is handcrafted from a single sheet of watercolour paper. Lauren Collin uses surgical blades to carve into the thick paper layers. The sculpted relief is revealed by the ambient light. Each scale of paper takes on a particular colour depending on the light and shadows. Some may seem coloured, though the paper remains free of any pencil lines. The motif that emerges from the paper evokes the plumage of a bird, or even the seabed.
