Square Petal

This sculpture by Valay Gada was crafted from recycled sheet brass using repoussé and chasing. Each petal was worked over a heated bed of tree resin and gheru, a red iron oxide paste, before being torn and curled at the edges using pliers. The assembled flower was airbrushed with polyurethane paint. Depicting a parrot tulip in full bloom, the piece serves as a self-portrait of the artist: a form opening to its own rhythm while retaining a still centre.
