Dark Bloom

Exhibited in AN ALPHABET OF OBJECTS

Clay, Raku clay, Monuments

This sculpture by Juz Kitson was hand built from raku and mid-fire clay with black oxide. The firing process yielded varied matte and lustrous finishes on its surface. Evoking hybrid organic forms that hover between vessel, organism and relic, the piece presents a densely clustered surface suggestive of growth, decay and regeneration. Drawing on natural and ceremonial associations, it conveys an uncanny, totemic presence.
