Copper, Monuments
This sculpture by Driaan Claassen was made from carved ceramic, rendered conductive and submerged in a copper sulphate bath. Via electroplating, copper crystals gradually formed across its surface. With crystalline growth spreading through cavernous voids, the piece evokes neural pathways and is a material metaphor for psychological healing.
