To create the golden hearts for this neckpiece, Chao-Hsien Kuo uses keum boo, an ancient Korean technique that bonds 24-carat gold foil around 20 times thicker than gold leaf to the silver. This method allows luminous gold surfaces to fuse permanently with the metal.
