This work is made with burnt and unburnt bamboo and birch wood toothpicks held in polyurethane sealant. It also consists of glass fibre reinforced concrete, with used motor car oil and rebar. It contrasts concrete’s brittle certainty with the quiet resilience of organic forms made of toothpicks. In this piece, Chris Soal reflects on how modern systems attempt to contain nature, forgetting that life adapts, invades, and ultimately exceeds every boundary.
