Our lady of the sideshow

Hand carved from wood and finished with natural and water-based pigments, this sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary on a colourful circus stage. She lifts an umbrella, and the Christ Child perches on her coiffure. Her Rococo gown parts like theatre curtains to reveal the figure of San Juan Diego with a chest tattoo.
