Black Ailante

This wall sculpture is made from charcoal fixed at the centre of a canvas and encircled by samaras, the winged seeds of the Ailanthus altissima tree (tree of heaven). The black core contrasts with the lighter seed wings, set in varied directions to suggest motion.
