This object is a modern interpretation of a 19th-century specimen tabletop. The traditional display of precious marble, timber and ivory is substituted with over a million reclaimed ocean plastic fragments inlaid into the surface. This kaleidoscopic terrazzo gives the tabletop a reverse gradient pattern in varying hues of white and blue that depicts the Earth’s longitudinal and latitudinal lines. The tabletop rests on a white conical base.
