
These are sheets of washi paper, which is a traditional Japanese paper made using local fibre, processed by hand. Washi is made using fibres from the inner bark of the gampi tree, the mitsumata shrub, or the paper mulberry bush. The paper is then gilded with brass and silver leaf.
