The ciborium is a liturgical object used in the Catholic church and other Christian confessions to preserve the communion wafers after the Eucharistic celebration. This work was made exclusively by hand with the 17th century Trapani technique called 'retroincastro' (reverse-embedding), where each coral element is set from the back through drill holes made to house the coral.
