Willow No. 2

In this sculptural basket from Maggie Smith's Willow Series seeks to showcase willow and it's versatility. Each piece uses every part of the willow: rod, wood, bark, leaves and roots and aims to utilise as many techniques as possible in it's creation. Here an impressive 17 have been used: stitching, cobbling, cording, twining, skeining, hexagonal plaiting, needle felting, looping, papermaking, papier mache, crochet, knitting, coiling, bobbin knitting, wrapping, knotting and assembly
