Chopine

The chopines are a kind of women's platform shoes worn in Venice between the 15th and 18th century, initially by courtesans – to protect their feet from mud and dirt. After becoming fashionable they were worn by patricians in a symbolic race: the higher the platform, the higher the status. This pair of comfortable chopine sabots, handcrafted by Daniela, are made from a bright blue and gold silk damask, golden leather and cork. The fabric is glued on the cork platform.
