Plant Colors squares

This colourful Gobelin tapestry is made from handspun plant-dyed sheep's wool. Divided into small squares which join together to form small crosses, the Gobelin is woven on a high loom. The blue dye of indigo and the yellow dye of apple tree bark are two basic colours that result in turquoise colours when overdyed. The red pigment of madder root and cochineal aphids result in over staining with yellow, blue, orange or violet hues.
