Small octagonal box

This box features circular pieces of Mexican abalone framed with thin rings of luminous shell. They are spread across an octagonal lidded box based on the traditional buriburi toy form. The interior is finished in gold nashiji, a traditional Japanese knife finish, bringing out the subtle shimmer of the mother-of-pearl inlay.
