Sea-aware tapestry workshop in Oleiros

with Mar Fraga

Creating a tapestry from reclaimed fishing nets

Mar Fraga invites you to her workshop for a session that begins with an introduction to the environmental impact of fishing nets on marine ecosystems and the processes they undergo before use. Next, participants will explore the basics of traditional tapestry and how it has evolved into contemporary decor. The workshop is about using the unique textures and colours of reclaimed nets as inspiration for tapestry designs. With guidance from Mar, each participant will select materials and colour schemes before starting to weave their own tapestry, using prepared nets, ropes, and reclaimed wood from the sea. By the end of this workshop, everyone will have a unique piece to take home, serving as both a creative accomplishment and a reminder of the experience.
