Where hands come to life to weave

A cooperative for rural development, Pomelaj was founded in 2003 in Mala Polana, a typical Pannonian house that inspires its employees and visitors to connect the past with the future. Items are handmade from natural resources which will continue to tell the story of natural cycles long after the objects have served their purpose. Pomelaj's wicker workers take the corn husk and willow, which has many different shades depending on the time of cutting and processing, and weave useful objects such as baskets, handbags, door mats, figurines and furniture pieces.

Pomelaj offers employment to disabled and other vulnerable groups from the region. A visit to Pomelaj opens up opportunities to try basket weaving and be shown how products are made. The team guides visitors through the making process of simple products step by step, in the form of a taught workshop.
