Globe-shaped treasures

In 1949, before founding Zoffoli Mappamondi, Italo Zoffoli was a wooden furniture maker working in his small workshop in Rimini. He had always been passionate about geography, so he started carving wooden globes, which were hand painted with watercolour by his daughters or local nuns. Slowly but surely, this passion project gained recognition, and by the 1960s, Italo had become known in particular for his bar globes, which are globe-shaped cabinets for bottles and glassware. His creation was awarded the Tornio d’Oro by the Museum of Science and Technology of Milan in 1963.

Zoffoli Mappamondi evolved from a single craftsman to a manufacturing company. Today, even though Zoffoli’s globes are sold worldwide, they are still crafted in Italy. New materials have been introduced, such as steel, marble and crystal, as well as new tools and technologies to support the production process. Most of the techniques used are traditional, handed down from father to son. As a result, Zoffoli’s globes have changed and evolved in style and design, but they remain hand painted and unique.
