Founded in 1922 by Oswald Egelkraut in the Egerland, Weberei Egelkraut preserves the art of Jacquard weaving, creating intricate brocades on historic looms. Over the decades, the atelier earned the trust of theatres, opera houses and costume ateliers worldwide, gaining recognition for fabrics that unite historical authenticity with outstanding durability. In 2011, Udo van der Kolk, a long-standing employee, took over the workshop to preserve century-old techniques while expanding the production with punch card looms.

Today, Weberei Egelkraut produces elaborate brocades, including exclusive real-gold brocades, damasks, lamés and half-silk blends. The atelier has an archive of more than 500 historic patterns, ranging from Gothic and Renaissance motifs to folk and mid-century designs. This allows for bespoke creations for stage productions, traditional costumes, liturgical vestments and interiors. Every fabric tells a story, carrying generations of craftsmanship into the present.
