VANOOK was founded by Svenja Weimann and Veronika Wagner, two master tailors with a strong passion for craftsmanship and timeless design. After years in the fashion industry, they turned to bag making together in 2014, focusing on high-quality, durable bags and accessories. The Munich-based duo are recognised for their minimalist and functional designs, that rely on sturdy materials such as vegetable-tanned leather and waxed cotton. Every piece is carefully handcrafted in their studio. Svenja and Veronika pay close attention to crafting ingenious details into their creations, ensuring that each bag is both stylish and practical. "Our aim is to create bags that are built to last and serve as reliable companions for our customers," they say.

What was the first object you made together?
Svenja: Our very first model was the Rolltop Backpack, which has remained a bestseller for over 10 years. We still offer it in six different colour combinations, and it continues to be one of our most popular designs.
What unique technique do you use in your work?
Veronika: We have mastered a special origami-style folding technique in leather, which we use for our wallet collection. We also take great care in the detailed construction of our bags to ensure they are as functional as they are stylish.
Why did you decide to focus on bag making?
Both: After working in fashion, we found ourselves drawn to more durable materials like leather and waxed cotton. Bags offered the perfect way to combine craftsmanship with practicality, which we found more fulfilling as a craft, than clothing design.
What has been your biggest challenge in running your studio?
Both: Competing with mass-produced goods is definitely one of our biggest challenges as a small, independent label. We believe in quality craftsmanship, sustainability, and local production, knowing there is an audience that values these principles.
