Threads of change

Teixidors was founded in 1983 by hubsand and wife duo Juan Ruiz and Marta Riba, who launched their atelier in Terrassa, an 18th-century wool-textile hub northwest of Barcelona. The two partnered with local families to identify neurodivergent workers of all ages, and offered them textile training programmes ranging from 18 months to three years. Today, around 22 weavers work from Teixidors' headquarters in a former textile building designed by Catalan modernist architect Lluís Muncunill.

Using hand-operated wooden looms based on 18th-century designs, Teixidors artisans craft classic throws, blankets and cushion covers from merino wool sourced from Extremadura, eco-friendly linen from France and Italy, as well as cashmere and yak wool from a cooperative in Mongolia. The atelier frequently collaborates on limited-edition pieces with prominent designers, such as British architect John Pawson and British designer Faye Toogood.
