Santiago Urugi is an Aché artisan from the Indigenous community of Ypetimí in Paraguay. He creates hand carved wooden sculptures inspired by the wildlife, traditions and ancestral knowledge of the Aché people. Santiago’s practice reflects a deep relationship with the forest, where craftsmanship is both an artistic expression and a way of preserving cultural memory through the passing-down of knowledge between generations. Thanks to his collaboration with La Casa POpore, his work reaches international audiences while remaining rooted in the values and identity of his community.
