Mirko Migliorini

Lutherie

Airuno, Italy

Crafted with tradition for tomorrow

  • Mirko specialises in classical guitar crafting
  • His guitars are designed in a modern style
  • He also uses acoustical measurement techniques

Mirko Migliorini fell in love with lutherie when he was only 16. Driven by his strong passion, he graduated in 2002 in Milano at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria and attended many renowned luthier workshops, where he learned to build and restore guitars. Soon he was ready to create his own pieces: “I have always tried to build instruments with a personal and recognisable sound, that fulfill my personal taste and vision”, he says. Mirko's guitars are high quality instruments, from both an acoustic and an aesthetic point of view. He merges traditional and modern techniques, using innovative materials, such as Nomex which is a polymer. In addition to touching, tapping and bending the wood, Mirko uses acoustical measurement techniques such as modal analysis and frequency response functions.

Mirko Migliorini is a master artisan: he began his career in 2001 and he started teaching in 2015

INTERVIEW

I work with Italian spruce from Val di Fiemme, Canadian cedar, rosewood from Southern India and Ceylon. I also have rare stocks of mahogany from Honduras and Brazilian rosewood aged 50 years, which I have to store at ideal levels of warmth and humidity.

I have been moved by an unstoppable passion that gripped me at the age of 16 and never left me: today I still have the same emotional drive as then. I always try to find new ways of improving my guitars. Research is what I love the most about my profession.

It means being able to develop in my instruments the characteristics that allow a musician to fully express themselves: an intense sound, but also handling, an easy and immediate sound emission, balance and support in all registers, volume, sustain and powerful dynamics.

To gain as much experience as possible, by studying all characteristics of the instruments, by viewing the original historical pieces and by participating in guitar festivals, conferences and seminars, while at the same time learning from one or more masters.
