Embellished beads with tales to tell
- Marta carries on the a Murano tradition
- Her practice is inspired by the textures and movements of nature
- She creates handcrafted necklaces with individually sculpted beads
Glass and fire define the creative world of Venice-born beadmaker Marta Rossetto. Although her artistic journey began with studies in painting and sculpture, she discovered beadmaking in Murano and found her true calling. Inspired by beauty, art and history, Marta creates colourful handcrafted beads and shapes from Murano glass, transforming them into jewellery and accessories. “Through the flame, glass surrenders to transformation, continuously taking on new forms and expressions,” she says. She is committed to preserving and promoting the heritage craft, and she runs workshops to encourage younger generations to discover the creative possibilities of glass. Marta’s pieces have been exhibited at the Museo del Castello Scaligero in Torri del Benaco, Italy, and at the Glass Festival in Wertheim, Germany.

INTERVIEW
It is impossible to reproduce nature. I view that as a challenge that inspires me to keep improving my work. I strive to preserve a sense of naturalness in my pieces. I create each bead freehand, without moulds, relying solely on the forces that nature already provides, such as gravity and centrifugal force.
All of my pieces are miniature sculptures, shaped by precision, knowledge and artistic expression. After sketching my ideas and studying colour interactions, I bring them to life in the flame, where glass gradually transforms into something unique.
For centuries, these beads provided livelihoods for women and helped support families during difficult times. They played an important role in women's economic independence, giving them dignity and a sense of value through work. For me, preserving the art of beadmaking is a way to preserve history.
In a fast-moving world, creating something by hand is a meaningful act. It is a process that keeps both the mind and the body alive, while allowing traditional knowledge to be shared with future generations.
