For more than 130 years, Maison Spindler has been practising the art of wood marquetry with passion and dedication. Housed in the former Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Léonard, at the foot of Mont Sainte-Odile, the workshop was founded in 1893 by Charles Spindler, a pioneer who redefined marquetry into a true art form. Inspired by Art Nouveau, he taught local artisans to ‘draw with wood’, creating elaborate compositions with layered tones and textures. Passing down this know-how for three generations, the Spindler family has perpetuated the craft by subtly merging tradition with innovation.
Since 1975, Jean-Charles Spindler has carried this creative vision forward. Every piece begins with a hand-drawn design and is crafted from a palette of woods, meticulously cut and assembled. Successfully combining heritage and contemporary creation, Maison Spindler collaborates on bespoke projects that showcase its marquetry art internationally. Awarded a Living Heritage Enterprise label, the atelier stands as a timeless reference in excellence and celebration of the wonders of wood marquetry. Adjacent to the workshop, Maison Spindler also has a gallery in which visitors can see the works produced by the team of artisans.
