Aleksandar M. Lukić is a talented Serbian glass artists working with stained glass and kiln-formed glass. He has gained international recognition for his unique style and exceptional skill in manipulating this delicate material. Aleksandar’s glass art is characterised by bold shapes, vivid colours, and intricate details. He draws inspiration from a variety of sources, including nature, and uses a wide range of techniques to create his stunning works of art. In addition to large installations, he also produces smaller, more intimate works, such as vases, bowls, and jewellery. His pieces are highly sought after by collectors and have been featured in numerous exhibitions and galleries around the world, including in Italy, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA.

When and how did you start working with glass?: Back in 2004, a stained-glass workshop was organised in my town. At the age of 40, I wanted to change my life and try my hand at a craft that had always mysteriously attracted me. I am not sure if the glass found me or if I found the glass.
What is it that draws you to glass?: Glass is a magical material that is both perfect and durable, yet delicate and fragile. When the light passes through the glass, it is as if a door to new dimensions opens. When I work with glass, I do not feel any effort. I can easily think and create with that material as if it were a part of me.
How do you express tradition and innovation in your work?: Artistic research in stained glass, kiln glass and mixed media is something that keeps me busy in the studio every day. I shape the glass in the furnace on manually created moulds, which I then apply to stained glass. The possibilities of glass fusion of various granulations, colours, pigments, and transparency are incredible.
What is something about your work that people do not normally know?: To fuse glass of different colours, the pieces must have the same technical characteristics. If these rules are not followed, the glass will break during cooling. Even when window glass is formed in a furnace, it is only possible to successfully join glass if it comes from the same manufacturer.

Aleksandar M. Lukić is a master artisan: he began his career in 2004 and he started teaching in 2010
