The Lapuan Kankurit collection comprises of woven textiles for sauna and spa, kitchen and tabletop and for the home. Only natural raw materials, such as linen and wool are used, which can be transparently traced back to their origin. As such, the products made by Lapuan Kankurit take a stand against the waste-generating, nature-damaging, cheap production methods. To balance out the chilling climate of the north, Lapuan Kankurit textiles are characteristically warm and soft – antidotes to the rough and rugged nature where they are born.
The beginning of the manufacturer, Lapuan Kankurit dates back to 1917 when an entrepreneur named Juho Annala founded a felt boot factory in Lapua in the Ostrobothnian region of Finland. In the 1930s, the company broadened its scope by acquiring weaving machines. Juha Hjelt, a third generation weaver in the family, set up a company with a new name in 1973, Lapuan Kankurit (Weavers of Lapua). Today the company is lead by the fourth generation of weavers in the family, Jaana and Esko Hjelt.
