La corte dei miracoli is a Venetian atelier founded in 1994 by Annamaria Scintu and Tommaso Toffolo, two artisans wishing to keep their city's ancient mask-making tradition alive. The duo specialises in papier-mâché – a sustainable, lightweight material made from recycled paper and natural glue layers. Each of their masks is entirely handmade from these natural, non-toxic materials. Following the legacy of the mascereri, renowned mask-makers of Venice since the 15th century, Annamaria and Tommaso make traditional Commedia dell’Arte characters and theatrical masks. They also create contemporary designs, which have been featured in numerous exhibitions.
La corte dei miracoli is a name that suggests a myriad of possibilities through costume and disguise. The atelier, situated in the heart of Venice, functions both as a studio and small museum, welcoming visitors into the world of Venetian craftsmanship. Annamaria and Tommaso offer personalised mask-making courses in an effort to keep this legacy alive.
