Mini doorways, grand heritage

  • Ketevani handmakes minitaures and lamps inspired by Georgian heritage
  • Old Tbilisi architecture inspires much of her work
  • She is self-taught in her craft

In 2019, Ketevani Nozadze founded her studio, Lampino, where she makes decorative objects inspired by Georgian architecture. Each work is both a functional object and a cultural tribute, often inspired by Old Tbilisi’s iconic doorways, stained glass, and turrets. Entirely handcrafted using wood, cement, glass, textiles and metal, Ketevani also hand paints lamps, magnets and miniature objects to convey a sense of coziness and memory, inviting viewers to see history through craftsmanship. Today, Ketevani hopes share Georgian culture with a wider audience. "What began in a small apartment has grown into a creative enterprise that I hope will continue to grow," she says.

What led you to a career in craftsmanship?
Creation is my release of knowledge and energy. As an art historian I held high standards, yet in making I discovered a free, unplanned process that empties and fills me at once. In that moment I find myself.
How would you describe your work process?
Everything starts with an idea, often from a Tbilisi building I love. I sketch, cut wood, paint, engrave and assemble everything by hand. Each object is the result of emotional input, from concept to packaging, carrying forth the energy of history and my personal vision.
What story does each creation carry?
Each Lampino creation tells a story, like evening light in a window, and silhouettes alive within. My objects hold the soul of houses, whispering of friends and foes, of centuries, of Soviet silence, and of Georgia’s enduring search for freedom.
What do you hope your work will spark?
I hope my work sparks thought. Awakening begins with a question, an explosion in the mind. Even familiar buildings appear transformed, urging people to wonder, create and capture something timeless.
