The beauty of sensitivity

  • Jenya graduated with a degree in porcelain and glass
  • She creates soulful ceramic sculptures
  • She has a great eye for detail

Jenya Adamova has a certain enigmatic smile, frailness and bright aura, which she carries with lightness and beauty. Her creations mirror this personal delicacy by conveying a sense of calm and balance. Exquisite lines, clean volumes, harmony, rhythm, precision in detail, these are objects that tend more towards a unique piece of art rather than the utilitarian. Jenya is also part of the small team of the well-curated gallery TESTA, Sofia. She has drawn since early childhood and received the encouragement at home and at school to pursue her talent. The philosophy that guides her along the way is best expressed by her own words, “I have to search and experiment, that I should not be afraid of mistakes, and that every effort is worth it”.

Jenya Adamova is a master artisan: she began her career in 2001 and she started teaching in 2018.

INTERVIEW

On a ceramic bust portrait and simultaneously sketching pencil drawings on different types of pads. Drawing has always helped me to see things more clearly when working with fictile materials.

It has always been nice and easy to work with clays. Modelling 3D volumes is challenging and exciting. The process of getting to the end product is long and requires skills, technological knowledge, and lots of patience and love. Not everything is under your control. Especially when firing is involved, magic happens. I've always found this fascinating.

Quite tidy, especially at the beginning of work. And after I finish, pretty messy. Some of my favourite tools are the ones I have made or adapted for myself. But I also have a wonderful gift from a friend - a Tiranti modelling kit, I've been using it for a long time.

The challenge is to have a dialogue between the artist and the audience. Nowadays everything is happening at breakneck speed, information is flooding in from everywhere. So it is important to be able to concentrate on the key issues and meet people. The greatest joy is to receive feedback on whether my artworks manage to touch people.
