Cordonería Alba is a historic workshop that opened its doors back in 1904, now in the hands of Jesús Espinola Cantero, godson of one of the founder’s children. The atelier and shop still makes precious adornments, indissolubly linking its activity and raison d’être to the devotion for Semana Santa of Seville’s community. The craft of cord making and trimming has a guild that dates back six centuries and continues to be preserved. This tradition is highly respected within the walls of Cordonería Alba, where skilled hands work with tools, techniques and machines dating hundreds of years.
Today, the ornaments have become true luxury items, thanks to the exquisite workmanship in intertwining various types of threads, the likes of gold, silver, silk and wool. Cords, trimmings and tassels are commissioned by different brotherhoods to adorn statues for religious events and pageants, adding an aura of holiness and deep spirituality. In addition, the workshop makes adornments that grace the horse harnesses of the Spanish and British Royal families.
