Christina Hellevik & Leif Møller Nielsen

Pust Glasværksted
Glassblower | Ebeltoft, Denmark

Passion for blown glass and for each other

  • Christina and Leif have mastered the hand-blown techniques
  • They strive for a symphony of shapes and colours
  • Their work merges every aspect of the Scandinavian spirit

Both Christina Hellevik and Leif Møller Nielsen are newcomers to Ebeltoft. Originally from Norway, Christina got her artistic education in Denmark, while Leif came to Ebeltoft from Copenhagen. Both of them trained as glassblowers in the famous Swedish Kosta. Their glass workshop Pust (which translates as "Blow") is today situated in the old merchant´s house in the centre of picturesque Ebeltoft – once a fishing town surrounded by magnificent nature. The place is a combination of the hot shop and a sales gallery filled with unique hand blown utility and decorative glass items. Exquisite shapes – either plain or decorated – are in perfect balance with the delicate shades of colours.

What brought you to Ebeltoft?
Christina: First, it was the local glass community which was established here in the 1980s, then the job opportunities, last but not least: Leif was already here. Leif came here to work for the renowned couple T. Møhl & T. Drivsholm and later on at the Glass Museum's hot shop.
Where do you find inspiration?
Christina: I simply love colours. I feel that through the molten glass and its special optics, I can just explore my inner rainbow. Leif has always venerated modern Danish design and he was literally blown away by the grand nature of Iceland during his stay there.
Do you design your glass together?
Yes. We sometimes design glass together, but being a couple means that whether one of us comes up with an idea, or if is a collaboration, we always discuss it with one another.
Have you mastered any specific technique?
We use a variety of different techniques in our pieces. Very often we use optic moulds to create certain optic patterns in the glass, other times we use Venetian incalmo technique to join pieces together. We also work with overlaid glass to create a multi-coloured piece which is afterwards cold worked.

Christina Hellevik & Leif Møller Nielsen are expert artisans: they began their career in 2001
