Borja Cáceres is a self-taught wood sculptor whose CHRONOX project unfolds between Barcelona, the Costa Brava and the high mountains of Europe. His process begins far from the workshop, with long walks through remote forests in search of fallen black pine fragments shaped by time and the elements. Working exclusively with wood that has completed its natural life cycle, Borja approaches sculpture as an act of discovery rather than transformation. Each fragment is carefully selected and carved by hand, following the direction of the tree's fibres and intervening only where necessary. "Raised in a family consistently engaged in manual work. My practice is self-taught, developed through observation, experimentation and direct learning from the material," he says. Borja's sculptures reveal the hidden architecture of the tree, inviting viewers to reflect on time, adaptation and the traces that nature leaves behind.
