The grain of wood

This vessel by Ki-Tae Kim was carved from a pawlonia tree log using a lathe, and reduced to an exceptionally thin form. Carbonisation accentuated the wood’s texture and created an ink-wash painting effect. Emphasising the natural grain of the wood, the work highlights nature’s inherent design and the passage of time. Inspired by Joseon Dynasty porcelain, the shape features bold and modern curves.
