Kaibo Xiong's artworks are rooted in the ceramic heritage of Song Dynasty Ru and Jun wares. Kaibo spent 12 rigorous years studying at CAA and Qinghua University to develop and perfect his approach to craftsmanship, which now bridges ancestral wisdom with contemporary ceramic sculpture. "I am guided by my ethos to transcend tradition through creation,” he says. "It means I integrate raw clay, rich firing glazes and mixed materials into my making." Moving beyond functional constraints, Kaibo captures the tranquil and unadorned spirit of ancient bronzework and pottery in sculptures with great energy. His award-winning work is held by the National Art Museum of China and Tokyo University of the Arts.
