Azotea Studio is a distinctive voice in Mexico City’s contemporary furniture scene. Led by founder and creative director Esteban Caicedo, the studio creates modern pieces that bridge contemporary design and traditional craftsmanship. Esteban’s influence brings elements of Afro-Latin identity, everyday architecture and contemporary experimentation to a selection of wide ranging pieces, such as sofas, beds, benches and tables. Collaboration is a core principle of the studio, and it frequently works with artists and artisans whose technical expertise complement and expand Estaban’s design language. Azotea Studio’s key pieces combine woodwork, upholstery, resin and concrete work and metalwork, as it reinterprets local and familiar materials through sculptural and architectural forms.

Developed in collaboration with Mexican master artisans, Azotea Studio’s pieces are a dialogue where tradition evolves within a dynamic urban and cultural landscape. The presented piece expands traditional techniques such as woodworking and natural fibre weaving into something beyond ornament. Palm fibre is harnessed as a structural and architectural component in rethinking the fabric of a chair.
