Rosehip with Birds

Inspired by a drawing by William Morris, this sculpted bas-relief is a tribute to traditional techniques of gilding and ornamentation, and also to the beauty of nature as an inspiration for the History of Art. The French technique of reparure is used to give the ornaments relief and fine detail. The use of gold leaf in different colours brings the elements to life, while the play of burnished and matte surfaces intensifies the magic of the gold leaf.
