Land

This hanging artwork is approximately 2.5m in length, unfurled. It is created by hand cutting paper across a central seam. An embroidered thread holds a wire in place across the length of the artwork, which has been shaped to form a spiral cascading downwards. It slowly turns as it hangs from a piece of invisible wire, benefitting from the natural airflow in the space it inhabits. The paper is painted green, and the patterns are organic, such as leaves and lichen, with elements of animal life, such as snakeskin, representing the land and the natural world. This artwork is part of an ongoing series of experiments that involve giving 3D form and movement to paper.
