"Language is replete with idioms and metaphors that symbolise knot as fragmentation, a weak spot, a troubled area on one hand," says Shalini Mithal. She proposes an alternative perspective in which the knot acts as a sign of hope, of continuity and possibilities. Her work On Paper Of Paper is a tribute to the versatility of the humble knot and its ability to transform into art. The colour white accentuates the beauty of knots while the use of twine with different thicknesses and tensile strength creates textural interest.
