Esposto in A ROOTED ASCENT

Copper wire, Oak wood

This sculpture by Paul Kristafor was lathe turned from a felled oak tree using traditional gouges. The legs were hand carved, and the copper wire weaving was created using jewellery tools. Evidence of the borer damage that led to the tree’s demise was deliberately preserved. The work aims to blur the distinction of the wood as both shrine and relic, with woven details evoking the interconnectedness of all things.
