This basket by Polly Adams Sutton was woven from hand-gathered western red cedar bark, which was split and worked into a twill weave. Its undulations were created by twining wire around the strips while damp, and the rim was finished with yellow cedar bark and a folded border. Inspired by the natural curvature of cedar trees shaped by coastal rain-shadow environments, the work translates the rhythms of the landscape into an asymmetrical form, echoing the movement of ocean waves.
