©All rights reservedAbstract Piñata No. 16
This sculpture by Roberto Benavidez was built up through multiple layers of papier-mâché over an abstract structure made of balloons. The surface was finished with stacked, hand-cut crepe paper strips, incised with a serrated pattern that reveals vibrant, multicoloured sheets beneath. Taking the piñata form beyond its role as a disposable artifact for celebration, the piece showcases a rhythmic surface that sustains a sense of movement and aliveness.
