Bird of Light, The Eternal Hummingbird

These brooches by Surya Mathew were crafted from silver and 18-carat gold using the lost-wax casting technique. They were silk engraved and polished, and set with precious stones, gems, pearls and peacock feathers, through a blend of Indo-French making techniques. Rooted in the artist’s fascination for birds, the pieces were brought to life from watercolour drawings and celebrate the richness and diversity of colours found in nature.
