Crinkleface, Pile of Trials, State of Play

These sculptures by Austin Stern were blown from coloured glass, and decorated with linework and line cane patterns. Forms emerge from the main bodies, and faces were drawn on. Depicting cartoon-like creatures interacting with physical manifestations of their own anxieties, the works invite the viewer to find humour in the small battles we fight daily. Crinkleface joyfully reacts to the emergence of green shapes from its body, which represent play and potential. Pile of Trials shows various emotional responses to the collection of thoughts and feelings sprouting from its head. State of Play juxtaposes positive and negative feelings elicited by its plump belly.
