These jars by Maria Chang were created through a process of breaking and rebuilding. The vessels were repeatedly struck until they fractured, after which the shards were mixed with sand. This new material was used to recreate the forms. Exploring breaking as a generative act, the pieces treat cracks and fragments not as damage but as traces of memory, material and time.
