Conch Couch

This sofa by Miles Lawton Gracey was hand carved from pieces of wood that were first joined together to form the structure. The shape was roughly defined with a chainsaw and then refined with gouges. Drawing inspiration from the artist’s grandmother’s love of shells, as well as science fiction and Rococo grotto furniture, the piece creates a protective space for family gathering and storytelling.
