This sculpture by Sayuri Ikake was hand built from pigmented porcelain clay, with each spike individually attached to the whole. The clay incorporates washi paper fibres, which enhanced the strength of the material during drying. Conveying the memory of the artist’s sensory experience of a visit to Sedona, USA, the work is intended to be reminiscent of the wind, the sun and the scent of the soil.
