Echoes of Joy

This beaker by Epona Smith was made from Britannia silver, then carved with seal and Florentine engraving. The hand formed silver wire details reinterpret Chan Hua, a traditional Taiwanese craft which combines techniques of paper-cutting, weaving and embroidery to create flowers. Depicting two magpies meeting on a gilded branch, the work draws on East Asian symbolism of love and good fortune. Encircling the vessels, the birds appear to carry on an endless flight.
