Our lady of the sideshow
Hand carved from wood and finished with natural and water-based pigments, this sculpture depicts the Virgin Mary on a colourful circus stage. She lifts an umbrella, and the Christ Child perches on her Marie Antoinette-inspired coiffure. Her Rococo gown parts like theatre curtains to reveal the figure of San Juan Diego with a chest tattoo.
